DONEGAL CIVIL DEFENCE PARTICIPATE IN FANTASTIC EASTER RISING CELEBRATION

first_imgFEATURES: Three members of Donegal Civil Defence joined with colleagues from other counties to participate in the major state ceremony in Dublin to commemorate the centenary of the 1916 Easter Rising in O’Connell Street on Easter Sunday.Mr. Paidin Doherty from Clonmany (27yrs Service), Mr Ian Gallagher from Laghey (5 yrs service) and Mr. Donal Bonner from Stranorlar (2yrs service) represented Donegal Civil Defence at this prestigious ceremony. The volunteers have been taking part in Foot Drill training, 1 day every fortnight in McKee Barracks since November 2015, in preparation for the event.The Commemoration included a Parade from St. Stephens Green through O’Connell Street and finished in Parnell Square. 100 Civil Defence members participated, representing all counties.The Parade was led by a small element of the Defence Forces, followed by An Garda Siochanna, Health Service Executive, Dublin Fire Brigade, Civil Defence, Irish Coast Guard, RNLI and finally the main Defence Forces contingent.Civil Defence joined the parade near Christchurch. The main ceremonies at the GPO took place from 12 noon to 12.30pm and this included a wreath laying ceremony as well as the reading of the Proclamation.
