Local veterans from each of those services — some in wheelchairs and some with walkers — listened to remarks from Houston Mayor Sylvester Turner. He says more than 300,000 veterans live in the Houston area. It happens in the United States of America.” A Veterans Day ceremony takes place in downtown Houston Friday morning. A parade will wind through city streets beginning at 11:30.
