Police Find Gun That Could Link Aaron Hernandez to

Photo by Getty Images.Massachusetts state police have located the gun that could link former New England Patriot Aaron Hernandez to the double murder from last year, according to CBS 3 of Springfield, Mass.Police discovered the gun following a June 21 car crash on Interstate 91 in Springfield, Mass., during an inventory of the wrecked car. The car belonged to Jailene Diaz-Ramoz of Bristol, Conn.A .38-caliber Smith and Wesson revolver was in the car’s trunk inside a briefcase. Ballistics testing matched the gun with the bullets fired in the death of two men in Boston in 2012.Hernandez is already facing a charge of murder in the death of Odin Lloyd, and that case led them to the as-yet-unsolved July 2012 double homicide of Daniel Abreu and Safiro Furtado.Hernandez’s possible connection to the murders of Abreu and Furtado remains under investigation. On July 16, 2012, Hernandez and his associates were allegedly involved in a fight with Abreu and Furtado at Cure, a Boston nightclub. Soon afterward, the two men were gunned down in their vehicle when an SUV with Rhode Island license plates pulled up alongside them and opened fire. Police believe that an SUV towed from the home of Hernandez’s uncle was the one used in the homicides.CBS 3 of Springfield reported that the gun belonged to a friend who Diaz-Ramos called “Chicago.” She said “Chicago” is a football player, and that he and his friends wanted to leave the gun with her so that they didn’t have to bring it with them.Diaz-Ramos was arraigned in Springfield District Court on charges of illegal possession of a firearm and ammunition, and was later released on $1,000 bail. read more

An expensive plaque was also missing from the statue standing at Discovery Park in a Chula Vista neighborhood.City crews first used a pressure washer and then they scrubbed the rest of of the paint off using a brush Sunday. The evidence of what happened is still there. He didn’t condone the vandalism, but he agreed with the message. He said his people don’t want these statues around because of what Columbus stands for and because of the way the colonist treated his native people.“If anything, he brought genocide to these lands and he’s responsible for the annihilation of thousands of indigenous tribes, our ancestors,” said Lucky. “Why would we want to celebrate Columbus Day? It would be like us celebrating the murder of our ancestors.”The folks with UNICO, a local Italian American Association, said Columbus represents their journey and they celebrate him. Christopher Columbus Day is an important part of Italian American heritage.UNICO responded to the the vandalized Columbus statue saying, “The Italian-American community does not condone any violation against any statue of any kind representing cultural history. Columbus statues and days of celebration that are attacked do effect our claim to our heritage and contributions to the discovery expeditions.”Lucky said he didn’t believe the vandalism was an act of violence, but Corona said she didn’t feel safe when she saw it.“Just being at my house and then this close to here, a violent message like this really isn’t nice,” said Corona.Chula Vista Police are investigating.
